“Fractal Bonan”

Harry Partch’s 43-tone-per-octave “Diamond Marimba” was a design that fully articulated a matrix of pitches arranged like clasped hands—forming a diamond-shaped layout. Confronting the appeal of that rational, radical keyboard (tone-bar) design, I developed a new instrument concept using 36 tones per octave: six cells per area, with six areas gathered in a fractal pattern to form an overall large hexagonal structure.

When I actually played the finished instrument, I found fresh, genuinely exciting possibilities—for example, by shifting a sequenced hand motion around the circumference, you can perform the microtonal structure in a systematic way. This uniquely structured instrument is simply fascinating—please, try playing it first.

ハリーパーチの１オクターブ43音の”ダイヤモンド・マリンバ”は、 ひし形の方丸に合掌のように配置された音階のマトリックスを描ききった設計だったが、 その合理的で斬新なキーボード（鍵板）設計、という面白さと向かい合った結果、 オクターブ36音を用いて、6マス1エリア、エリアがx6個集まりフラクタルで 大きな6角全体像を作るような配置の楽器構成を考案した。 完成したものを演奏してみると、シーケンスする手の動きを→円周方向にずらすこと で微分音の構造的な演奏が可能であったり、新鮮な発見がありとにかく面白い。 このユニークな構造の楽器、まずは是非とも演奏してみてください。
